    Applications Needed for Family Court Mediators

    The 13th Judicial Circuit is now accepting applications for their 2020 list of Court Approved Family Court Mediators. Supreme Court of Missouri Rule 88.05 requires a mediator in a contested child custody matter to be an attorney or to possess graduate degree in a field that includes the study of psychiatry, psychology, social work, counseling or other behavioral science substantially related to marriage and family interpersonal relationships.     Time to Pay 2020 Dues

    Lawyers and firms wishing to expense 2020 BCBA dues in 2019 may send $50/lawyer dues to Treasurer Dan Beckett at Boone County Bar Association, 705 E. Walnut, Columbia, MO 65201. Make checks payable to “Boone County Bar Association.” Dues become payable January 1, and members will be removed from the rolls if they have not paid dues by April 1, 2020.     Mid-Missouri Mock Trial Invitational Tournament January 18-19

    Columbia College and the Board of Advocates at the University of Missouri-Columbia Law School will host the Mid-Missouri Mock Trial Invitational tournament on Saturday, January 18 through Sunday January 19, 2019. We began hosting AMTA events in 1999 and we look forward to our 22nd year of hosting. This is a four round, two-day tournament which is limited to 28 teams.

    BCBA’s 13th Annual Chippin’ in for Charity Golf Tournament raised approximately $16,765.35 for Charity

    The final numbers are in for the 13th Annual Chipping in for Charity Golf Tournament held on October 14th with $16,765.35 raised. Since its inception, the tournament has now raised a total of $144,081.95 for charity. The funds from this year’s tournament will be donated to Mid-Missouri Legal Services’ Veterans Law Project, which provides pro bono legal services for low income veterans in our community.     Next BCBA Meeting Scheduled for Oct 9

    The next scheduled event for Boone County Bar Association members will be the regular BCBA meeting, Wednesday, October 9th. Our Speaker for the October 9th meeting will be the Presiding Judge Kevin Crane, he will speak on the State of the Judiciary for the 13th Judicial Circuit. The CLE program has been approved for 1.2 hours of credits.

    Lunch will begin at 11:30 a.m. the Broadway Hotel, 1111 E. Broadway. The presentation will begin about noon. A business meeting will precede the program. The Executive Committee decided that there is a $15 fee for the CLE and future CLE presentations with lunch included. Checks should be made out to BCBA. There is metered parking available in the covered lot next to the hotel.

    Guardian ad Litem Training on November 12

    The 13th Circuit will host its annual Guardian Ad Litem training on Veterans Day (Monday, November 12). It is anticipated it will be 3 hours of GAL training, and 3 hours of Mediation for 7.6 hours of CLE, including 1.2 hours of ethics credit. The training will be from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 at the Boone County Courthouse. Registration is $20.00 per person. Please RSVP here by November 5th. The training this year will include Mediator topics to help receive the required annual mediation training.

          The Missouri State Public Defender System is seeking a Department Director. The State Public Defender Director is responsible for oversight of an annual budget of approximately $53 million and direction of 615 employees in 46 offices across Missouri.     Nominations for this year’s BCBA Awards are needed for the 4th annual awards for Distinguished Professional and Outstanding Service. The awards this year will be announced at the Holiday Party in December.
